Where to put your bathroom Shower grab/safety bar?

There is no set height or angle to set a grab safety bar. The only way to be sure it is going to work is to get the person who is going to use the bath or shower to show the fitter how they get into the bath or shower and where their hand naturally goes to the wall. That is where it needs to be fitted as it is part of a natural action. If you don`t install it like then it might cause damage to who is using it as they will be moving their hand in a unnatural way to hold the bar. Below are two examples in the same house of grab bars being used in a different way by the same person.

The first one shows a shower with the bar being vertical as that is the natural position for this person when entering the shower from straight on.

The second example shows a grab bar over a bath and that is set to an angle. This is because when you enter the bath you twist to the side if you are going to shower at the end. So the safety grab bar needs to reflect this as to where it is installed.

I hope this helps you with where to decide to put it. The other important aspect is to buy the right bar. I will leave the style choice up to you, but please choose and well known branded product as it will of had strength tests to see how much weight it can support. If you see an unbranded one that is really cheap it is likely to not be very good or even dangerous. This is not down to the external looks but is often in the quality of the fixings that attach it to the wall.
